A wide spectrum of molecules THC-free
Broad spectrum hemp oil is a very rich oil because the main molecules of Cannabis Sativa L. are preserved, such as phytocannabinoids, specifically cannabidiol (CBD), terpenes, flavonoids, fibers, vitamins as well as minerals.
“Broad spectrum" hemp oil therefore contains a profile of large substances naturally present in the hemp plant. The difference between broad spectrum CBD Oil and full spectrum CBD Oil is the amount of THC that is completely eliminated in the broad spectrum Oil ensuring no psychoactive effects.
The entourage effect
All of the components united in the broad spectrum oil influence each other, causing the entourage effect. Thus, all of the associated molecules create a synergy increasing the effectiveness of the elixir, which is greater than when the components are taken independently.
Some hemp oils are made from CBD isolates which may be available in two different forms, either in crystals or in powder. Cannabidiol is the only active ingredient in this type of oil, without any other additives. One of the advantages of this dosage form is that it can dose the concentration of CBD in the oil, allowing to display high concentrations of CBD. However, oils made with CBD isolate will not benefit from the entourage effect of all the molecules initially present in hemp.
The entourage effect studied by scientists
Laboratory research by Pr. Mechoulam and al., an Israeli researcher who discovered CBD and considered to be the pioneer of cannabis research, published in the European Journal of Pharmacology in 1998 (1) the complex ways in which the different compounds in cannabis seem to act synergistically to give the plant its distinct effects, which he calls the entourage effect. Dr Ethan Russo, American researcher, shows in the British Journal of Pharmacology in 2011 (2), all the potentialities of interactions between phytocannabinoids and terpenes such as Limonene and Linalool. Dr. Russo is also one of the scientists who bet on the entourage effect as the best method to obtain all the qualities that cannabis can offer thousands of users.
